Product description
Zinc is the second most abundant trace element in the human body and is required for numerous biochemical processes. Like all trace elements, it is essential for humans because the body cannot produce zinc itself. It must be supplied from external sources as needed to prevent zinc deficiency.
Zinc is required by more than 200 enzyme systems as a cofactor for numerous biochemical processes and is therefore involved in almost all metabolic processes in the body, such as acid-base balance, protein metabolism, and carbohydrate metabolism, as well as cell replication. As a component of SOD (superoxide dismutase) and catalase, zinc enzymatically protects cells from damage caused by free radicals.
Zinc is also involved in the synthesis of neurotransmitters (dopamine, testosterone). In glucose metabolism, zinc promotes the availability of insulin (insulin-zinc complex), as it is necessary for its normal storage and regulation. Normal zinc levels are essential for metabolism and the normal function of the prostate.
Zinc also supports reproduction and alcohol detoxification (alcohol dehydrogenase).
Zinc is particularly important for the immune system. Studies have shown that zinc supplementation is a useful complementary support for colds and allergies .
Did you know that zinc can help maintain eyesight (night vision)?
Zinc also supports the maintenance of healthy skin, hair and nails.
Zinc deficiency occurs predominantly in smokers and vegetarians, as well as in people exposed to high levels of pollutants. White spots on the fingernails, thinning hair, and blemished skin can indicate a deficiency.
